Electric water softeners work similarly to manual water softeners, except that electric timers are used in place of manual dials and handles. This makes electric water softeners more precise, but it also means they use more electricity than manual water softeners.
The electric water softener is designed to conserve both water and salt by flushing the resin bed only when it’s needed. In addition the timer can be programmed separately for day and night, so you don't waste salt at night when no one is using water.
